Frequently Asked Questions - Technical Issues

Q. Why does the NAP only have 10Mbs per second speeds and higher?

A. The NAP is designed to interconnect larger networks, and we don't want to compete with our customers. If you need a slower connection, please call one of our members.

Q. Why are all NAP connections Ethernet based?

A. The NAP takes advantage of the tremendous growth in ethernet technologies. Other connection types - say ATM, require more expensive interfaces, and are available from some of our members. We also allow a variety of connection types in the Meet Me Room (MMR).

Q. Can we get a connection in the Meet Me Room and not join the NAP?

A. Yes,  The MMR is carrier neutral. You can get your connection from any of the fine carriers located there, and many other firms with transport to other locations. However, consider the many other advantages of connecting to the NAP.

Q. What are the primary advantages of a NAP connection?

A. The NAP keeps local traffic LOCAL!  You don't have to send your traffic to Dallas or Chicago to go from one Local member address to another.

Q. What is another advantage?

A. By locating your connection in the center of the country, you can take advantage of "Internet Geography." Latency measured in milliseconds has two principle components, distance and load. Since Distances are shorter on average to servers located in the middle of the country, your clients (wherever they are located) will see faster responses and better performance.
